Arouca is a pleasant municipality, made up of 16 parishes. Heir to a vast heritage, her story gained special prominence when the Arouca Monastery was donated, by D. Sancho I, to his daughter D. Mafalda. It's worth a historical journey through the meanders of this noble village that was born in the shadow of its Monastery. In addition to having notable archaeological and historical-cultural values, Arouca is also a territory full of ethnographic, natural and geological riches. In 2009, the territory, which covers a total of 41 geosites, was recognized as a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO European and Global Geoparks Networks. In addition to its geological richness, Arouca offers an extraordinary biological heritage. The slopes and mountains are home to some species of Portuguese flora, such as chestnut trees, oaks, birches and, here or there, holly. Traveling through this municipality is having the opportunity to discover incredible places of untouchable nature.
