The border with Spain, to the east, and the Guadiana, to the west, are the major borders of the municipality of Moura. The water of its rivers and streams, the fertility of much of the land and the abundance of ore from an early age drew people to this territory. Away from the large commercial outposts on the coast, it was on land and from land that the population of the county has always lived. This is how, over the centuries, villages were organized and expanded. This is how the municipality of Moura made its history and asserted itself. In addition to Moura, seven locations, Amareleja, Safara, Sobral da Adiça, Póvoa de S. Miguel, Sto. Aleixo da Restauração, Santo Amador and Estrela, give body and soul to the municipality. They are very different places, with their own personality. We are surrounded by the olive trees, which are a hallmark of the county. In its surroundings, or crossing it, there are rivers, where you can fish. The fields are still hunting ground or, where possible, for walking. The rhythm of life, still marked by agricultural seasons, is as old as the county itself. The four seasons of the year still know a sequence with few changes. Thus, the art of making excellent cheeses, sweets, sausages, wines and olive oils that are a source of pride for the municipality of Moura has not been lost. In a territory where life has always run in a harmonious balance between Man and the environment around him, new perspectives are opening up at the beginning of the 21st century.
